March 2024

Welcome to our monthly newsletter.

Weeks have been flying by recently and we have some very exciting news we couldn’t wait to share with you : we are thrilled to officially announce that the Independent Coffee Lab is now London’s newest certified Q Professional Venue!

It is both a privilege and a responsibility to be able to partner with the Coffee Quality Institute and to support their mission: improving the quality of coffee and the lives of those who produce it. We look forward to hosting many courses and lectures in the months to come. Speaking of which, two classes have already been created in the CQI database:

Q Arabica Grader combo exam & training course

September 30th to October 5th 2024

Q Arabica Grader calibration

October 6th 2024

Both courses will take place at the end of September and will be led by seasoned coffee educators and instructors Julian Loayza and Ben Bicknell. Do please reach out to receive more information or if you have an interest in joining these courses!

Events and workshops coming soon

Join us at on Friday the 15th of March from 9.30am to 12pm for an exclusive tasting session session of Ethiopia’s fresh harvest with Atrie Weno, the founder and CEO of Coffee Legends Ltd.

Coffee Legends sources coffees produced and processed by Daye Bensa Coffee, where Atrie worked as a Deputy General Manager for over 12 years. Daye Bensa Coffee is well-known for its production and export of award-winning (think Cup of Excellence) coffee globally. As a newly established import company, Coffee Legends share coffee roasters’ interest in making direct and lasting relationships by supplying coffees from their farms and washing stations as well as helping linking roasters to community developments in Ethiopia.

A large selection of coffees will be available to sample. Three (washed and natural) stock lots currently in store and available in the UK as well as a dozen micro lots from the latest harvest, due to ship in the next few months. Washed, Natural, Honey and Anaerobic processed coffees from over 10 different washing stations and regions (Sidama and West Arsi) will be on display – a great opportunity to sample the wide variety of coffees Ethiopia has to offer!

Participation is free, but space is limited. Registration is required and available in the events section of our website here. We hope to see you there!

Stay tuned and make sure to follow us on social media (Instagram and LinkedIn) as we will soon be announcing the start of some very special projects currently in the making:

  • A membership program for coffee producers, importers and roasters in order to support coffee businesses of all size and shape even better and foster our local coffee community.

  • The second edition of the Collaborative Coffee Exhibition, a purpose-led networking platform whose aim is to create connections between coffee growers and green coffee buyers.

  • A series of workshops ranging from coffee quality to brewing and tasting for both professionals and enthusiasts.

  • Plenty of public cupping events!

See you in April and have a great Easter break :)
